Deputy Head - Drug Monitoring Unit

Lab Solutions is recruiting on behalf of an amazing organisation for a Deputy Head of Therapeutic Drug Monitoring Unit. This is a specialist Unit providing a comprehensive therapeutic, analytical and advisory service for the management of patients with epilepsy.

The duties include

  • Supervise the day to day running of the lab
  • supervising staff and planning and organising the workload.
  • To act in the place of the Head of the TDM Unit in their absence.
  • To be a core member of the Therapeutic Drug Monitoring Unit, this is within the Society’s Medical Department. This is a fully accredited, internationally recognised tertiary referral laboratory for the highly specialised therapeutic drug analysis of biological fluid and other pathological specimens for the management of patients with epilepsy.
  • To practice as a registered Clinical Scientist or a registered Biomedical Scientist and assist the Head of the Therapeutic Drug Monitoring Unit in providing an efficient and reliable analytical and clinical advisory therapeutics service to users of the service.
  • Together with other laboratory colleagues, the post holder will be required to perform a range of complex, specialised, analytical procedures, to provide a Therapeutic Drug Monitoring service as an aid in the management of patients with epilepsy.
  • To undertake research and development to further the service offered by the Unit
  • To assist the Head of the Therapeutic Drug Monitoring Unit in providing a comprehensive service and maintaining the quality to the standards set by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) under ISO 15189.

You will be involved with performing complex laboratory investigations with a high degree of autonomy. For example, separation of analyte or drug of interest from patients’ biological matrix using liquid or solid phase extraction procedures. To analyse analyte/drug extracts by use of liquid chromatography Mass Spectroscopy.

The candidate will be a HCPC registered Clinical Scientist or Biomedical Scientist, have experience in a supervisory role, within a ISO151189 regulated clinical lab, practical experience in LC and MS and using a LIMS system.
